Centers - with Britney Hickman

District Teacher of the Year for the Arkadelphia Public Schools (2013-14), Britney Hickman, explains one element of her 2nd grade class's weekly routine - Centers. Centers is a timed rotation between a variety of learning activities. Ms. Hickman teaches the activities during normal class time and then assigns the center to a spot in the rotation. Since students are familiar with each assigned task, Ms. Hickman is able to work closely with one small group at a time with guided reading lessons. Between each center, students are allowed a brief "brain break." During the break, music plays and students dance and can move around freely while transitioning to their next center.

Britney Hickman teaches 2nd grade at Central Primary School in the Arkadelphia Public Schools in Clark County, Arkansas - Home of the Arkadelphia Promise.
